Type Design Workshop for Students of Visual Communication

International typography workshop for students of visual communication in rural environment of Bahon. TypoTopo is a continuation of successful workshop “Rural Poster” in 2009 and will explore surfaces, communications and objects in real environment of Bahon as an inspiration for newly created typography and fonts. Public lectures and exhibition will be available free of charge.
Programme for public:
TypoTopo Talks – typography lectures – Thursday, 27 October 2011, 3 – 8 PM, Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Hviezdoslavovo námestie 18, Bratislava, room 135. Lectures in English.
Exhibition and party – Saturday, 29 October 2011, 5 PM, FreeDom Gallery in Báhoň (A. Hlinku 4). Exhibition will show workshop results – lettering, fonts, specimens, calligraphy.

TypoTopo theme:
As the title implies, the workshop will look at the relation between typography and topography. We don’t want people to simply redraw images/objects using a computer. Rather, students will search for inspiration in topography (however this is interpreted) and apply it to type design.
The workshop will give students an opportunity to learn the basics of drawing fonts, correctly drawing Bézier curves, spot and fix optical mistakes, sketch type, work in Fontlab and advance their skills to create a usable working font.Ján & Ondrej

Workshop TypoTopo we finished by the exhibition of created fonts and a party with dancing and sitting by the fire.
I want to thank the students for focusing on work, a lecturers for professional and personal approach and TypoTopoTeam for professional organization and creating a pleasant and familiar environment.

TypoTopo runs for the second day. Everything is OK, only if it was not raining.
Statistics
TypoTopo workshop page was visited by 2774 visitors for the past 14 days, they did 7763 page views.
39 students (8 PL, 10 CZ, 11 SK, 8 HU, 1 LT, 1 SI) submitted application to the workshop. Two other students did not qualify, or cancel their application.
